New Nintendo DSi System
It is good to be an uncle! I don't have children of my own, but I do have nephews that I like to play video games with. My nephews are more technologically savvy than I ever was at the age of 8 and 5. They have a video games console, computer access, cell phone access, and video camera access. I would say their favorite video console games system is the Nintendo DSi system. If you watch the two of them play, you will quickly see why they prefer it over the Wii. If you are thinking it's because they don't like to share, you guessed right. They don't like to share or take turns. If the 8 year is playing, the 5 year old is pouting. If the 5 year old is playing, the 8 year old will pout and then resolve to playing his old DS with the broken screen. To each his own, right? Right!
Now, here is the part where it is good to be an uncle. When I visit my nephews, I get see how they are doing in school. How they understand big and small. How they understand old and new. They are smart kids and they are fun to be around. I look forward to sharing with them the news of the latest and greatest Nintendo stuff. So of course I told them about the Nintendo DSi XL. Their mother gave me dirty looks when I told them about it, but their birthday's are a few months away so let the excitement bubble over!! Who knows? The boys may even get the Nintendo DSi XL just because someone (not naming any names...me) wants to get it for them so he (me) can have someone to play it with. I'm not the parent, so it doesn't take birthdays for me to give them cool stuff. I just ask that they get good grades and have good behavior at school. Well, we are still working on that good behavior thing with the 5 year old. Whew!
It's funny to me to see how far the console game video has gone from the Atari 2600 (so I'm dating myself back to the messoic era, right) to the video console games of today. I mean, back in the day, one of the best Nintendo cheats around was...Up Up Down Down Left Right Left Right B A Start (Contra fans, remember that, wow, a moment of reflection...).
The new Nintendo DSi system, has gone all Jerry Jones (Dallas Cowboys owner) on us. No more playing and viewing your mobile video games with those puny little screens. Now you have to have laptop sized screens! The DSi XL does not disappoint. It has a 4.2-inch LCD screen which will be a great feature for my nephews on road trips and airplane rides.
Also, I'm glad that I won't have to buy any new games right off the bat. The DSi XL is backwards compatible to all game cards designed for the DS, DS Lite and the Nintendo DSi system. From playing games to just playing around, the Nintendo DSi XL does it all.
Parents, Uncles, Aunts, Grandparents, older cousins, consider yourselves forewarned! You will be buying these for your little ones as well.
